Surely the first contract is an important memory for many Kyr. It's a formative moment, a chance to begin again. To start shaping who you'll be in this life and how you'll live it. Still, Tosa likes to believe the memory of her first contract is more meaningful than others.
A clear night sky. Fireflies flickering like miniature lighthouses above a field of wheat and grass, beckoning her forwards. Calling her to be a guide, to be a light for herself and others in the dark of night and grief.
Even a light faces consequences, though. It's the first time Tosa can remember feeling her chest this tight- panic rising through her very bones. The man's grief is overwhelming in its ferocity as it claws away at every defense she's ever built. He still sits beside her, silent and watching the fireflies dance back and forth.
His eyes are dry now. There's not even a memory of the terrible loss left to plague him in his final days. Tosa was kind with her first contract- young and naive. Offering a dying man the bliss of passing on without regret if he could offer her any new piece of information. In time she would learn to be more selfish.
She would never regret her first contract, though. That piece of knowledge stuck with her through the years and often drew her back to the fields where it was made.
The fireflies are brightest on a night like this.
